Choosing A4 Printing Paper

When you're printing a document or photo the paper is just as important as the ink.f4 printing paper This is because the paper's surface can reflect or absorb light. The way a print looks on the paper is also a big factor in how long it will last before fading or color shifts become noticeable.

Depending on the paper you choose the surface will either be smooth or have a texture.f4 printing paper The texture can affect how stray light reflects off the surface and it can affect how well the paper performs when used for printing. Some papers have a very fine texture while others are rough and grainy. The paper's surface can also have a pattern that's very uniform or that's more irregular, like the surface of a tree.

Papers are rated by their weight in grams per square metre, often abbreviated as gsm.f4 printing paper The higher the gsm, the thicker and heavier the paper. For everyday use a standard 120 gsm offset paper will be sufficient for invoices and mass mailings, but you can also find thicker grades suitable for full-surface printed backs on leaflets and postcards. Choosing a heavier grade of paper can be expensive and so it's worth considering whether you really need to buy a more luxurious, high-end product.

You can also choose papers that have special structures or surfaces, for example a linen structure or felt structure or an aquarelle paper-like grade.f4 printing paper These papers can be very luxurious but they will also carry a surcharge on top of the normal price of paper.

The most common paper sizes are A4, A3, A5 and A6.f4 printing paper These are the international paper size standards set by ISO 216 and are compatible with most printers and copiers. A4 is a good general purpose size and you will often see it used for documents, brochures, posters and office reports. It's also the standard size used in the US and Canada for letters, flyers and homework.

There are a few other size variations that are sometimes used for specific purposes, these include Ledger or Tabloid (landscape) which is slightly larger than A3 and could be used for menus and record keeping.f4 printing paper Legal is much larger than A4 and used for presenting expert opinions or fee notes and for recording wills and deeds.

Another consideration is the thickness of a paper, this can be affected by its weight and texture but is also determined by the production process. For example, some papers are made from recycled material and therefore have a reduced environmental impact. Others are carbon balanced, this is where a certain amount of carbon has been compensated for through forest preservation and locking the carbon up in the trees for future use.

Finally, there are papers that have been coated to give them a shiny finish or to increase their durability or print quality. This can be expensive but it can also make a difference to how your prints look and feel.
