What Is a Roller Gel Ink Pen?
Roller gel ink pen have a unique writing mechanism that combines the best of both worlds of traditional ballpoint pens and rollerball pens.roller gel ink pen This enables the pen to produce a smooth ink flow while also being less likely to bleed through paper, making them a good choice for those who want a fast-drying and clean-looking writing experience. These pens have a thin tip made of plastic or metal, which is attached to an ink reservoir that holds water-based gel ink. They can be capped or uncapped to protect the ink from leaking. The ink reservoir is connected to a transparent “follower” made of more viscous gelled material that helps the ink travel and prevents leakage and back flow of the ink. These pens are available in a variety of colours, sizes, and designs with some having rubber or plastic finger grips to ensure comfortable and secure writing.
Gel pens have a finer tip than most ballpoint pens and are therefore suitable for more detailed work. However, they are still easy to use and require much less pressure than ballpoints. They can be found with a variety of nib sizes, from 0.18 millimetres (0.0071 in) to 1.5 millimetres (0.59 in) and with an array of vibrant colours. This makes them a great option for writing and drawing as well as for everyday use.
The ink used in gel pens is water-based but contains pigments that make it richer and more vivid than typical rollerball ink. This means that gel pens can be used on any type of paper and will not smudge easily. However, the ink does take longer to dry than both ballpoint and rollerball ink, which can lead to smudging if you write quickly or across the page. Historically, this has been an issue for left-handed people but this is no longer the case as modern inks are designed to be faster drying and non-smudging.
Some rollerball pens have a small, revolving ball in the tip that dispenses the ink; this is different to a fountain pen and produces a very light and smooth line. This is similar to rollerball ink and many gel pens can accept Parker-style G2 refills, although they will not be as smooth.
Like ballpoint pens, rollerball pens can suffer from feathering on certain types of paper, which causes the ink to sink into the fibres and blur the lines. This can be avoided by choosing a better quality paper and using a thicker or more precise nib size.
